Outer-Beltway focus threatens Prince George’s new General Plan (Prince George's Urbanist)

"Last year, Prince George's County planners kicked off a bold effort to revise the countywide comprehensive plan and direct future growth primarily to transit stations inside the Beltway. But a continuing focus on sprawling suburban developments on the county's fringes could thwart those worthy goals." (Read the post here). (The current status of the adopted plan is here). More on Deer Management

Many people in Prince George’s County enjoy watching white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and consider this wildlife species a valuable part of nature.  In recent years, the number of deer have increased to a level that has many Prince George’s County residents taking notice.  Citizens are becoming more concerned about deer-human conflicts (such as deer-vehicle collisions and Lyme disease), frustrated by deer browsing their landscaping and vegetable gardens, agriculture damage, and forest degradation.  Many feel that the time for management has come. (More County Parks & Recreation info here). (A map of County deer-vehicle collisions is here). (State Deer Management info is on a previous post).

In addition to the plan, deer managers produce annual reports on Maryland deer (both white-tailed and sika) populations and their management. The 2012-2013 Maryland Annual Deer Report can be found here. In addition, an archive of past deer reports can be found on this page.
