Here’s what you need to know if you get laid off in Maryland during coronavirus pandemic

Who can file for unemployment?

The system is for people who have lost jobs through no fault of their own. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, that includes those laid off because of loss of business or production tied to the outbreak.

It does not include people who can’t work because they are sick. However, some people who have been ordered by a doctor or public health official to isolate themselves may be eligible for unemployment benefits, according to the state labor department.

Legislation the General Assembly approved last week also makes people eligible for benefits if they have to leave their jobs to avoid risk of coronavirus exposure or to care for an infected family member. Hogan signed the measure into law Thursday, and it took effect immediately.

And state Labor Secretary Tiffany Robinson said Monday that people can file for unemployment if their workplace is closed because of social distancing orders, even if they haven’t been formally laid off from their jobs.

Both part-time and full-time workers can be eligible for unemployment benefits.

Note:

• Maryland’s primary election will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020.  Early voting will be conducted from May 21st through May 28th.
• The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the primary election is May 26, 2020 if the voter wants to receive the ballot by mail, or May 29, 2020 if the voter wants to receive the ballot electronically.  Voted ballots must be postmarked on or before Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
• Any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot. You don't need a reason to vote by absentee ballot. It's another way to vote if you don't want to or can't go to an early voting center or your polling place.

DPW&T Drainage Work on Swan Creek Rd at Arrow Park Dr.

DPW&T replaced the existing pipe that started with a headwall between 109 and 111 Swan Creek Road.  We upgraded from an 18” Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) to an 18” High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe.  The pipe runs south-southeast under Swan Creek Rd. to a new manhole in the Right-of-Way (ROW) in front of 12201 Arrow Park Dr and turns there and runs south to the existing ROW inlet at property line between 12201 and 12209 Arrow Park Dr. The existing CMP had eroded and collapsed.
